Building Momentum

The dynamics around this issue are changing rapidly. There are new developments at local, state and federal levels on a regular basis. The Alliance's advocacy efforts continue to gain attention and our support is growing.

Here are some recent examples:

Rochester is the Best Choice

Rochester area leaders have been interested in the issue of passenger rail service for many years.

Rochester is important for high-speed passenger rail because it will serve the region's long-term needs, benefit the statewide economy and contribute to the viability of a Midwest system.

Take a closer look:

Southern Rail Corridor. A safer route for high-volume freight traffic.

The Southern Rail Corridor is a proposed 48.3 mile rail line to accommodate increasing freight train traffic in the region.

Gannett Fleming, a respected independent engineering firm, developed and analyzed the proposed route that takes freight trains through sparsely populated areas, avoiding downtown Rochester. Among its advantages:

  • Higher speeds for freight traffic
  • Enhanced opportunities for economic growth
  • Improved public safety for the
city of Rochester and Mayo Clinic
