High-Speed Passenger Rail Studies and State Reports

There have been multiple studies of potential routes for high-speed passenger rail service between Chicago and the Twin Cities over the last 20 years. One of the earliest studies showed that the Chicago to Twin Cities corridor was very promising in terms of ridership, revenues and financial/economic benefits to the Midwest region.

The most recent update is the Tri-State III High Speed Rail Study, which was completed in July 2009. This analysis uses the latest economic, socio-economic and technical data to conduct a review of potential high-speed passenger rail routes.

In addition, the Minnesota Department of Transportation recently completed a comprehensive statewide rail plan, that includes an examination of high-speed passenger rail options for the state.
